I’m a person willing to travel great distances to sample the best cuisine in Perth. Living south of the river, travelling to a place like Girrawheen is comparatively long journey to the places I usually go. Not seeing this as a barrier, I headed again into the heartland of Vietnamese cuisine in Perth.
This time it was to sample the bun bo hue at Bun Bo Hue Tuong Vy. BBHTY replaced a favourite pho place of mine Pho Huynh. Being a fan of both pho and its spicy cousin bun bo hue, we decided to give it a go.
I love chicken wings and love the Vietnamese stuffed chicken wings.
These came first and must have been straight from the deep fryer as they were piping hot. After giving them some time to cool, I munched into one. The usual filling of cellophane noodles, pork and carrot were there which formed a great combination with the chicken. A good rendition of this favourite Vietnamese dish of mine.
Next to arrive was the much anticipated Bun Bo Hue.
At first glance this looked good. The broth was OK but lack the depth of broths you would get at Phong Vinh or Tra Vinh. Also I was expecting it to be a bit more spicier. Slices of beef and pork and traditional pork knuckle lay hidden below the shimmering service. However this was nothing to get excited about and unfortunately I don’t think I will travel this far for the bun bo hue.
On the bright side, there is great banh mi just around the corner.
