Another day, another lunch. This time we visited Rasa Nyonya Penang Restaurant, after an unsuccessful visit a previous time where they had only one chef so there was a long wait for food. They did tell us upfront so that was good.
This time there was no such trouble so we were seated and our order taken. One of my favourite Malay dishes is nasi lemak, so that is what I ordered. They must have been short on chefs again as it took a long time for our food to arrive. It almost seemed that the chef was cooking one dish at a time. Being in a group, you expect all dishes to come out roughly the same time, but they didn’t and the unlucky person waited another ten or so minutes. This is after an initial twenty minute wait before any food arrived to our group.
The dish came with the usual nasi lemak components, all were OK. The main differences was the sambal which was more like a chutney, but still good, and the chicken. Instead of the usual fried chicken, kapitan chicken was served up instead. It tasted like your usual Malay style chicken curry, which was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary.
Rasa Nyonya Penang is a decent place serving up many Malay favourites. The dishes are OK but nothing spectacular. A good place to get your Malay food fix if you can stand the wait. Hopefully if you go there, there won’t be a too long a wait.
